Friends of East Sussex Hospices raises funds, through a myriad of activities, to support the running costs of the adult and children’s hospices that serve the people of East Sussex and Brighton & Hove (two of which are based in Kent and two in West Sussex). We also promote awareness of the invaluable services they provide.
Our 11 hospices are dedicated to providing specialist end-of-life care to patients of all ages. They look after people both in their own in-patient units and, to a larger and growing extent, in their patients’ own homes. Hospice care puts patients and their loved ones at the centre of everything they do and this medical, practical and pastoral support is offered to people of all faiths and of none.
Their services are delivered free but such care is expensive and they largely depend on funds raised from their local communities as well as the support given by local volunteers. Our adult hospices raise an average of 70% of their running costs themselves and, in spite of supporting a higher than average elderly population, receive 10% below the national average in government funding.
FESH supports the work of all our local hospices and does not wish to dilute their individual fundraising efforts so please do all you can to support your local hospice.
If, however, you would also like to join our large county-wide network of volunteers who enjoy helping us in many different ways to support all nine hospices, please do contact us.
We like to think we put the “fun” into “fundraising”.
